A legal obligation
In Belgium, all electrical installations must be earthed in compliance with RGIE standards. This requirement applies to :
- New buildings, where earthing is integrated from the outset.
- Renovations, which must include bringing the grounding system up to standard.
- Real estate sales, where a mandatory electrical inspection verifies the conformity of the installation.
How do I check a ground connection?
An earth resistance test is necessary to ensure its effectiveness. A qualified electrician can measure the resistance value and, if it’s too high, take corrective action such as installing an additional earth rod.
