In Belgium, the R\u00e8glement G\u00e9n\u00e9ral sur les Installations \u00c9lectriques (RGIE) imposes strict requirements to ensure the safety of people and property. Bringing electrical installations up to standard helps prevent the risks of electrocution, short-circuits and fires, while ensuring more reliable, high-performance operation.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Electrical diagnosis<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before any upgrade, an electrical diagnosis is essential to assess the condition of the installation. A qualified electrician will be able to identify any anomalies, check for the presence of the necessary protection and determine what work needs to be carried out to bring the system up to standard. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Replace electrical panel<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An obsolete electrical panel with old fuses or messy wiring should be replaced by a modern model comprising :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A general circuit breaker to cut off the electricity supply in the event of a problem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individual circuit breakers for each circuit (sockets, lighting, household appliances, etc.).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Differential switches to protect against current leakage and prevent electrocution.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clear labeling for easy identification of circuits in the event of a fault.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Check and improve earthing<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Faulty or missing earthing represents a major hazard. It must be checked and, if necessary, improved by installing earth rods or replacing earth conductors. A good earth conductor carries away leakage currents and protects occupants from electric shock.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Replace obsolete cables<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old electrical cables can be undersized or degraded over time, increasing the risk of overheating and fire. Upgrading often involves : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Replacing electrical wires with cables of the right cross-section for the power required.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Installation of insulating jackets to protect wiring and prevent short circuits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Separate circuits to optimize electricity distribution and avoid overloads.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Add compliant sockets and switches<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Older installations often have too few sockets, leading to excessive use of power strips and extension cords, which increases electrical risks. We recommend installing : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grounded outlets in all rooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Moisture-protected sockets and switches in bathrooms and kitchens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sufficient number of sockets to avoid overloading and improve user comfort.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Install overvoltage protection<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Modern equipment is sensitive to voltage variations. To protect electrical equipment and prevent damage, we recommend adding a lightning arrester to the switchboard, especially in areas exposed to thunderstorms. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Have compliance validated by an approved body<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once the installation has been brought up to standard, an electrical inspection by an approved body (Vin\u00e7otte, BTV, OCB, SGS&#8230;) is required to obtain a certificate of conformity.
