Thanks to technical advances in the field of glazing, there are now dual-function glazings that can both reduce noise and enhance safety. However, it&#8217;s important to understand which technical features to choose, so as not to sacrifice one for the other.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does acoustic glazing work?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acoustic glazing is based on the principle of sound wave damping. It is generally composed of : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>asymmetrical double glazing, with two panes of glass of different thicknesses,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or acoustic laminated glass, with a special acoustic PVB film sandwiched between two sheets of glass.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This composition allows resonance frequencies to be desynchronized, which greatly attenuates airborne noise (traffic, voices, music&#8230;). The greater the thickness of the glazing and the air space, the better the acoustic insulation. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acoustic glazing is often rated according to its Rw index, expressed in decibels (dB). Standard glazing offers around 30 dB of insulation, while acoustic glazing can achieve 36 to 45 dB, or even more in specific cases. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does safety glass work?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Security glazing, on the other hand, is designed to resist impacts and delay break-ins. The most common is laminated glass, which combines : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>two (or more) sheets of glass,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one or more polyvinyl butyral (PVB) films.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the event of impact, the glass may crack, but the pieces remain bonded to the film. This prevents splinters from scattering and maintains a physical barrier that delays intrusion. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Safety glazing is classified in accordance with EN 356, from P1A to P5A, according to its resistance to attempted breakage by tools (sledgehammer, axe, etc.).<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can the two properties be combined?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Absolutely. It is possible to manufacture laminated glass with acoustic and safety functions, incorporating : <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>glass of different thicknesses to break the propagation of sound,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an acoustic PVB film, which also acts as a safety film,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>double- or triple-glazed configuration for enhanced thermal and sound insulation.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, a double-glazed unit consisting of standard glass and acoustic laminated glass can offer :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>good sound insulation (up to 40 dB depending on configuration),<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a high level of safety (class P2A to P4A),<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>excellent light transmission,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>resistance to accidental impact and protection against break-in.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When is it relevant?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Acoustic safety glass is particularly recommended for :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>homes located in city centers or near noisy roads,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bedroom or office windows, where calm and security are essential,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bay windows accessible from the street or garden,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>business premises, where confidentiality and equipment protection are essential.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What you need to know for optimum efficiency<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To benefit from the combined performance, the glazing must be :<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>correctly sized (thickness, number of films, type of glass),<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>installed in suitable, airtight and securely fastened joinery,<br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>combined with acoustic seals and a reinforced locking system.<br\/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Glazing that is poorly installed or poorly integrated into its frame will lose much of its effectiveness, both acoustically and in terms of safety.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Leader Services, we offer bespoke acoustic and security laminated glass, carefully installed to guarantee comfort, security and durability.
